CUHK-Shenzhen Hosts 3rd International Undergraduate Open Day: Fostering Global Talent Under the "APEC Shenzhen Summer" Theme
Themed "APEC Shenzhen Summer," The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHK-Shenzhen) successfully convened its 3rd International Undergraduate Open Day on Friday, April 24. The event served as a premier platform for international educational exchange, drawing over 100 distinguished guests, including government representatives, principals, and educators from top-tier institutions, alongside prospective international students and their parents from 18 countries across Asia and beyond, including Thailand, Vietnam, and Mongolia.
The event underscored CUHK-Shenzhen’s commitment to global engagement and was honoured by the presence of high-profile diplomatic guests. Distinguished attendees included Mr. Gince Kuruvilla Mattam, Consul General of India in Guangzhou; Mr. Muhammad Hanafi Bin Jalalonmuhali, Education Counselor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Beijing; and Ms. Margaritha Wilke, Consul of Germany.
In his welcome address, Professor Zhu Shiping, Vice President of CUHK-Shenzhen, highlighted the dynamic synergy between the university and Shenzhen, renowned as an "APEC City" of innovation. Professor Zhu emphasized the university’s role as a diverse, international hub where English-medium instruction and a unique Collegiate system facilitate the seamless integration of both local and international students into the community.
"CUHK-Shenzhen is dedicated to cultivating an atmosphere of equality and inclusivity," Professor Zhu stated. "Our mission is to nurture global talents who possess a deep understanding of China while maintaining a worldly perspective." He further extended a warm invitation to all guests to return to Shenzhen this November for the upcoming APEC summit.
Mr. Laurie Pearcey, Advisor to the President and Master of Shaw College, provided an in-depth overview of the university’s signature "Collegiate System." Citing the "Shaw Bridge" program at Shaw College as a prime example, Mr. Pearcey illustrated how the program fosters cross-cultural dialogue and lasting friendships between Chinese and international students. He articulated how this holistic educational model bridges Eastern and Western cultures, playing a pivotal role in shaping well-rounded global leaders.
The event featured an inspiring panel session where five current international undergraduates from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan shared their personal journeys. Drawing from their authentic experiences of studying and living in Shenzhen, the students offered candid insights into campus life and enthusiastically encouraged prospective students from around the world to join the CUHK-Shenzhen community.
Organized annually by the Office of Academic Links, the International Undergraduate Open Day stands as a flagship event that not only showcases the university’s robust internationalized environment but also strengthens educational ties within the APEC framework.
Looking ahead, CUHK-Shenzhen remains steadfast in its strategy to connect with high-quality global educational resources. The university is poised to enhance its core competitiveness in the international education sector, embarking on a shared journey toward excellence with students from every corner of the globe.
